Excuse for Time Off
My baby was born with medical problems, so I was going to quit my
job. Fortunately, they offered me a part time position so I eagerly
accepted. A few months down the line, we were being audited, and had
many new employees starting. At the same time, I was told that my
daughter needed to be hospitalized. They told me to bring her in on
Monday, and this was on a Thursday. My baby was 6 months old at this
time. I called my boss as soon as I found this out.
She told me "I need you here."
I said, "I understand that, but Emily is going to be in the
hospital."
She said, "No, I need you here."
I said, "Listen, I don't know what to say, but I can't just
drop her off at the hospital doors and say see you later. I cannot
come in on Monday. I am giving you a few days notice so that you can
prepare tomorrow."
I could not believe that she wanted to put more pressure on me
than I was already facing. I had always been a loyal employee. I did
not take unnecessary time off. I ended up having to go over her
head!
This happened with a few other employees also. She did this to me
once before. My husband was having back surgery. The date was
scheduled a few weeks in advance. When I told her the date, she
looked in her book, and said I think that will be fine as long as so
and so doesn't ask for that day off. UH! Excuse me?
